Asashoryu Yokozuna

Friday, April 13, 2007

i have not had an idol for a longest time:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
wake up watching him almost daily while we were in osaka
i thought he looked very "authentic"
compared to the mix breed looking sumo wrestlers
only to find out that he is considered a foreign wrestler
because he came from mongolia
what's more, i was deceived by
his innocent teddy bearish looks
those chubby cheeks, thick lips and round tummy
and firm chunky limbs. hahah i sound like a pervert
who would have guessed Asashoryu is
the "bad boy" of sumo wrestling world today
with bad records of spoilt manners and traits
he even came close to forced retirement few years back
now, how (much more) charming is that!?
okay i know, nobody is really interested to know about sumo
or this fatty boom boom that i found really cute.
k bye.

how i emptied my wallet in march

trains trains and more trains
we were rarely on cabs unless intoxicated
"how's your trip?"
i have to answer an average of 4 times to this everyday
since i came back on monday afernoon
"good" fullstop. my answer
there were just so many chapters to this episode
that i didnt quite try to recite in details
or rather, in my barest honest words and thoughts

like answering the overasked "how are you"
and how damien rice said
"nothing unusual, nothing's changed, just a little older that's all"
ok back to the trip. osaka and tokyo on my thinest shoestring
an experience i will never regret trading with cash

cup noodles on a vacation?? we scrimped at times
and squandered on many other occasions
you know how people say japan is an expensive country
no objections to that but i feel that there are various ways
to have a blast with minimum cash, if time and energy allows
to my surprise, we all have yen left on the day of departure
well done, pee :)

i have deepest gratitude to remember or even repay if ever
the journey would have turned out different
without the accommodating friends met in osaka
and if sis ir you are reading this, please say a heartfelt arigato gozaimasu
to yeong and fazil, and pass that onto the boys in osaka
names we can hardly recall (HAHAHA)

here's the summary in point forms, randomly sequenced:

+ tuna and beef jerky sandwich, homemade recipe

+ authentic noodle shops are everywhere, only when you are not hungry

+ ym will eat the plain starch, pee will drink the soup
and sis will finish the leftovers (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

+ japanese have eyes with strong resistance to smoke

+ packaging and branding is indeed emphasized in japan BUT
the advertisements in subways are RUBBISH and in a total mess
every word is a 100pt size shouting at you, even ntuc ads are better

+ sis had an earthquake surprise on her birthday at 9am
i slept through it. completely

+ took us several maps, mart employees' help, 4 hours if not more
to find a pub we were recommended in tokyo, shinjuku
and it took us 2days to get there (we found it but it was closed!!!WTF)

+ most japanese girls, pretty or plain, are pleasant to look at :)

+ u can smoke almost anywhere in osaka
u canNOT smoke almost anywhere in tokyo, not even on the pavements

+ on the 228party in osaka
sis got picked up (!!!!) we were mostly sober (??!!)
i saw spiderMEN and red indians (!)
we wore the least among the handful of girls (???????)

+ the entire asahi family can come in 5 different sizes! (refer to pic)

+ japanese (like many chinese) do not like washing hands after toileting

+ i really like the butt and xxx wash in the toilet bowls :D

+ we went to the public bath. yes we did
we were naked. yes we were
we were naked, in the public bath. yes yes yes
hahaha together with some old japanese women :|
who stripped first? me and sis were on par i think

+ homely gathering/dinner in an osaka apartment
hot towel for a starter, soup as appetizer, the usual sushi maincourse
drinks as sidedishes, and Kerry for dessert... mmm

+ hotel lobby couches are actually comfy to sleep on! hurhurhur

+ the extensive subway is actually impossibly possible! just be patient

+ i LOVE sumo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+ alcohol became just another catch of breath in the quickpaced city

+ japan like almost anywhere else, has a rich culture that
its people can be proud of, protective over and even boastful about
i am envious. i appear oblivious to such, but am just quietly jealous
i felt lost and shallow talking to a french tourist in a cosy tokyo pub

+ every turn is an engaging picture to shoot, in japan

+ lets do this again!

i think i am done for now
not a bad job of recollection on events occurred a week ago
in a short span of an hour. my brains do function somehow ;)
ultimately, my trip was good
and a good trip doesnt consist of only happy incidents
everything tiny bits of it which includes the hiccups
made it a memorable trip. a good one

i wish i am still a little girl.

all i could think about all day is
to play catching and eat fishballs.
